Parents may now register new and returning students online for the 2019-2020 school year. All children must be officially registered for school by a parent or legal guardian. Two current proofs of residency are required to verify residency in North Chicago Community Unit School District 187: real estate tax bill, lease or mortgage statement and two utility bills (cell phone bills will not be accepted as a utility bill). An All Kids or voter registration card may be presented in the place of a utility bill. Parents must also show a driver’s license or state ID. Once the online registration form has been completed, parents/guardians must bring this documentation to the school for review to complete the registration process.
Families can start the registration process by visiting www.d187.org to access the SchoolMint online portal. A valid email address is required. You may register by using a personal computer, cell phone, or by visiting your student’s school.
Parents are welcome to attend an evening or Saturday in-person support session to receive guided assistance with the registration process. Please see the registration flyer enclosed with this letter for dates and times. Customer service for online registration is available through SchoolMint at 855-957-3535.
Transfer Information – If you will not be returning to North Chicago School District, complete the End of the Year Request for Transfer Form and submit it to the main office at your student’s school. Please contact your student’s school to obtain the form. After submitting the End of the Year Request for Transfer, the secretary will prepare an Illinois State Transfer Form and attach any medical documents and final report card for the student. For High School Only: If you owe any fees, you must resolve the balance before you are issued an Official Transcript. When you complete the Transfer Process, you will need to complete the entire registration process should you plan to return to North Chicago School District.
Current Student Withdrawal Procedures – A student will be removed from the rolls when he/she transfers, the parent completes the Request for Withdrawal Form or is expelled. The student must be accompanied by his/her parent who must have a valid photo ID and report to the main office where the student attends school. The student must bring all property belonging to the school. This includes text books, library books, etc. For High School Only: The main office will then give the student a withdrawal card which the student then takes to individual teachers. At this time, the student turns his/her books into the teacher and the teacher signs the card. A student owing money should be prepared to pay balances at the time of withdrawal in order to have official records released.
The parent/guardian must come into the school and present proper identification to the secretary to verify that he/she is the parent/guardian. The secretary will date and sign the Request for Withdrawal Form, which will coincide with the date the student entered into the computer as the date the student actually withdrew from school. The secretary will release a copy of the student’s transcript, all medical records, and a copy of the form letter from the Illinois State Board of Education indicating the status of the student upon leaving the school.
A student can be withdrawn from school when another school informs us that the student is in attendance at their school. The school will be required to send us the proper forms filled out. If a student leaves without returning books or owing an outstanding obligation, every effort will be made to collect the outstanding obligation before records are sent out.
Incoming Kindergarten students – Your child must be 5 on or before September 1, 2014, in order to attend kindergarten in the 2019-2020 school year.
School fees – Fees may be paid in cash, money order (made out to North Chicago CUSD 187) or with any major credit/debit card. Personal checks are not accepted. Fee payment is expected at the time of registration.
Free and Reduced Lunch – North Chicago School District 187 students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch for NO CHARGE at their school. Your Child(ren) will be able to participate in Community Eligibility Provision program without having to pay a meal fee. Contact Susan Oglesby, 847-689-8150, if you have questions.
Immunizations – Any student who does not have current, up to date immunization records on file by the State deadline will be excluded from school until such records are obtained.
