Message from Superintendent Price
Dear D187 Families and Staff:
We hope the holiday season has been filled with remarkable new memories for you and your family. This message is intended to bring everyone up to speed on how the district plans to continue instruction for students as we near the start of the second half of the school year.
In-Person Learning Will Continue
District 187 will resume classes in person on Monday, January 3rd. Even with the current increase in COVID cases, our schools remain a very safe place for students and staff. Following the current requirements of the Lake County Health Department, we will maintain COVID precautions and, with parent consent, provide testing to students who show symptoms.
All staff and students are encouraged to complete a COVID test before returning to school. If you have tested positive for COVID, do not come to school/work. Parents are welcome to call the health aide at their child’s school if there are questions. Staff members should contact Human Resources.
Severe Weather Days
In the coming weeks, severe weather conditions are likely due to extremely low temperatures or snow. Please be advised that classes will continue remotely on days when in-person instruction is not possible due to severe weather. District 187 will not cancel school. Staff and student attendance are required online per the Severe Weather Remote Learning Schedule provided by the school. A notification will be sent by the school principal when this schedule is activated. Parents are asked to get in touch with the school’s main office if there are any technical concerns.
Your cooperation is most appreciated as we do everything possible to ensure a safe return to school. Let’s all do our part to help this effort by making good decisions, getting tested, and getting vaccinated. We will keep you informed of any future developments.
John P. Price, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Atentamente,
Dr. John Price
Superintendente

Dear D187 Families:
You may have learned via news or social media about a TikTok challenge encouraging students to commit violence at school tomorrow. Please know that we have been in consultation with local police and are not aware of any threat to or by students in District 187. We are not aware of where this post originated or by whom. There is no information connecting this post to our district, or any specific district or school.
Our schools are safe places. We are always committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff and will respond in a manner consistent with our safety protocols.
The district will have an increased security presence at Neal Math and Science Academy and North Chicago Community High School on Friday. Out of an abundance of caution, and to help our students and staff feel safe and secure, all students at these schools will pass through a metal detection device and have their bags searched. North Chicago Police will also be rotating through the schools.
Unfortunately, this type of open social media threat is growing more common in our society. Schools have a hard balance to maintain in providing a safe environment for our children while not responding in a way which encourages socially irresponsible behavior such as this TikTok challenge.
We sincerely appreciate your support and will inform you of any further developments. District 187 schools are open Friday, December 17th.
Sincerely,
Dr. John Price
Superintendent
