Maker Fair

D187 North Chicago Community High School (NCCHS) students brought creativity and fun to the Lake County Maker Faire this April! The event, hosted by the College of Lake County's Baxter Innovation Lab, celebrates innovation and making.

The NCCHS team, led by Mr. Dan Godston and sponsored by the school's English Department, presented an exciting workshop called "Creative Writing and Mixed Media Projects." At this workshop, students helped Maker Faire attendees create amazing projects:

  • Poetry and Watercolor Bookmarks: Combining beautiful words and artistic expression.

  • Artsy Personalized Books: Giving a one-of-a-kind touch to favorite stories.

  • Solar Eclipse-Inspired Mixed Media Pieces: Expressing creativity around a fascinating scientific event.

But the learning wasn't just one-way! The NCCHS students also had a blast exploring the Maker Faire themselves. They got to:

  • Build and wear blinky pendants (think tiny lights you can wear!).

  • Fly drones through an obstacle course – a pilot's dream!

  • Discover demonstrations of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
